Jonas Wood: Hong Kong
60 pages
24.4 x 32.1cmThis book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Jonas Wood at Gagosian, Hong Kong.
It features ten new paintings and two sets of related drawings.
The works continue Wood’s exploration into motifs of fruits, flowers, and houseplants.
Depicting brilliantly hued orchids and succulents, full bunches of bananas, and a robust monstera plant,
he uses plants as a vehicle to experiment with color and geometry,
isolating the forms on monochromatic backgrounds to explore color theory, pattern, and line.
The bilingual (English/Chinese) catalogue also features the architectural model
Wood used to plan the installation from his studio in Los Angeles—he was not able to visit Hong Kong in person
due to COVID-related travel restrictions—as well as a floral wallpaper
designed by the artist on the book’s endpapers.
